ASPD is an education, research and advocacy organization which promotes understanding of the skin and nail diseases with respect to the foot.
Mission Statement
The American Society of Podiatric Dermatology's mission is to provide timely access to the latest data in the area of podiatric dermatology so physicians may increase the quality of care for their patients.
The mission of the ASPD is to acquire and disseminate knowledge about normal and pathologic dermatologic issues of the foot. This includes support and facilitation of research and education on the basic science, clinical, and pathologic aspects of the skin and nail unit.
Increase overall awareness regarding skin and nail diseases.
Promote and enhance education regarding skin and nail disorders.
Provide educational programs and materials regarding skin and nail disorders of the foot for physicians and other health care professionals.
Assist health care professionals in the diagnosis and management of difficult skin and nail disorders of the foot.
Provide educational materials and programs regarding prevention and recognition of skin and nail disorders of the foot to the lay public.
Increase the quantity and distribution of both scientific and general publications related to dermatologic issues.
Promote research related to skin and nail diseases of the foot.
Structure
ASPD was incorporated in 1964 as Florida non-profit corporation. With over 200 members, ASPD is one of the affiliated organization of the American Podiatric Medical Association and represents the medical and surgical aspects of dermatology in podiatric practice.
Board of Directors
The Board is elected by the membership. Board members serve three-year terms with a maximum length of service of nine years. The Board elects Officers from among its number.
Membership in ASPD in some form - Fellow or associate - is available to podiatrists with a special interest in and commitment to dermatology. Fellow membership is conferred upon those who are in the APMA and who have met relavant criteria recognized by the ASPD Board.
